Music is fundamental to my being, and I believe it is an integral part of every person’s education and development. My name is Felicia, and music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I began studying piano at the age of four, violin at eight, and vocals somewhere in between. Music quickly became a central part of both my personal and family life.
As a young musician, I performed whenever possible—through festivals, concerts, recitals, competitions, musicals, choir, and musical theatre. At thirteen, I was performing and competing in Piano competitions throughout Alberta at the RCM Performer's ARCT level, and at fourteen, I played violin with the Edmonton Youth Symphony Orchestra, under the guidance of Michael Massey. These formative experiences shaped not only my musicianship, but my deep respect for the discipline, creativity, and joy that music brings.
I believe that rhythm and sound live naturally within all of us—from the heartbeat to the breath—and that formal music training is simply an expansion of what already exists in the body. The body of a musician requires the same level of awareness, care, and physical understanding as that of an elite athlete. For this reason, my lessons begin with gentle physical warm-ups that support healthy posture, coordination, and the specific musculature required for each instrument.
Joy and play are essential elements of successful learning at any age, and this is especially true for young children. I am a firm believer in gentle, nurturing instruction, particularly with early learners. My approach emphasizes patience, encouragement, and emotional safety, allowing children (and adults) to build confidence, curiosity, and a genuine love for music without undue pressure or stress. Adult students can expect the same respect, support, and individualized attention as my youngest learners.
After the birth of my son in 2017, I decided to pursue music professionally and began teaching at a music studio in Edmonton, Alberta, where I quickly discovered how deeply I loved working with students. Teaching became a calling alongside performance, and I continued instructing throughout my time living and working abroad, including in Doha, Qatar.
These experiences of traveling and living internationally have deeply influenced my teaching, enriching my understanding of diverse musical traditions, learning styles, and cultural perspectives. I now continue to teach in the Niagara region of Ontario, bringing a global, open-hearted approach to every lesson.
In 2025, I opened Joy of Sound Music Studio from my home, creating a warm, welcoming space dedicated to learning and musical growth. As both the owner and sole instructor, I am able to devote my full attention and care to each student and their individual journey.
At the heart of my work—whether teaching or performing—is the belief that music brings joy to the soul. It is my goal to guide students of all ages with kindness, skill, and enthusiasm, helping them develop not only musical ability, but a lifelong connection to music itself.
